- Hi all,
-
- I'm trying to run WLPRSPL, a program that spools printer output from Windows
- to a PostScript printer attached to an lpd print queue. The setup works
- great when I have output directed to a queue on a VMS VAX. I have problems,
- however, when printing to a Decstation 5000 running Ultrix 4.0.
-
- The transfer of data from Windows to the DecStation seems to be OK (as per a
- quick lpq command). When lpd tries to print the document, however, it
- generates a message in the log saying an error occured opening the control
- file and the print job terminates. My input and output filters are both
- /usr/lib/lpdfilters/ln03rof.
-
- Ln03rof is supposed to convert ASCII text to Postscript unless the input
- file is detected to be a Postscript file. I'm sending Postscript from
- Windows and suspect that the Ctrl-D the Windows printdriver generates as its
- first character may be interfering with the input/output filter (isn't
- Ctrl-D a Unix EOF character?).
-
- Do any of you gurus have any other ideas what my problem may be or how I can
- work around this? Also, are there any input/output filters that are
- straight passthrough? If I leave the :if and :of entries blank in printcap,
- errors are generated.
-
- Reply either here or via email.
-
- Thanks
-

- Greetings all,
-
- well, i finally got Trumpet Winsock to work over my SLIP connection,
- after much massaging! Let me tell you, this is great. What is most surprising
- is, this is quite fast, for being just 14.4 slip. I would like to thank
- everyone who helped me out, in particular gsladic@mcs.com and the guy from mr.net.
-
- secondly, i have a few questions:
-
- 1. are there any windows newsreaders better than winVN?
- 2. where can i get the latest versions of winsock? i have v1.0a18, i heard
- there is a v1.0b5 or something like that.
-
- this is so cool. where do i send my shareware fee?
-
- -Malcolm
- thanks again!

- I found Cello to be a bit quirky, a poor gopher, and only a fair web browser. Hgopher,
- is much better at gophering. For a web browser, get NCSA Mosaic!
